Once again yours truly is so looking forward to the upcoming Marathon It's really and truly hard to believe that it will be 5 years since my late bro W.W. along with many others dedicated to fighting this killer disease put the first one together back in 2005 out in in Gimli(the original location). We've come a long way since then thanks to the ongoing efforts of all the dedicated volunteers who ensure the continued and ongoing success of the unique CancerCare fundraising event .I always look forward to meeting many of the forum members face to face for the first time or reaquainting myself with others i have been fortunate to meet over the years as a result of my involvement on the various forums i frequent. All good people. This year will be no exception Lots of new people to meet and lots of "the old gang" to both fish with and socialise with during the 24hrs.What goes on in the "Pensioners Palace" later in the Marathon stays in the "PALACE" My lips are sealed _________________

As everyone here knows the access to the river from Selkirk Park has been closed for the remainder of the season. After a meeting in Selkirk today I am happy to inform the participants that we are guaranteed cleared pedestrian access and if the work continues to proceed on schedule and weather remains co-operative we will also have a vehicular access around the immediate work area. The vehicular access confirmation is subject to another evaluation one week from today. This is promising news for the organizing committee and volunteers. _________________ ...the thrill is in the catching not the keeping....

Updates would be nice if you have any, is the derby in same location and can we drive our vehicles right out to our spots, if not this will be a problem for me as I'm bringing my Clam Yukon and all my gear down with me. I looked at the derby website Im really confused on derby times and events, how many events are going on? I see one starts at 9:am i guess until 1PM i see another one saying competitive event starts at 12:30 until 3:30 and then we have the family starting at 1PM i know what the media event is. whats with all these other ones? thanks _________________ " I only fish on days that end with Y "

As for driving on Northern....if there is no access for a vehicle I am going to get on from another spot like FPB or the old bridge!
I think that the regular derby does start at 9 am...as for the rest I am not sure! _________________ WHERE THERE'S FISH......I'LL BE THERE!!! |

If we are not able to drive on at the launch we will work on a shuttle with quads or a gator (pedestrian access is guaranteed). There will be a cleared parking area on the shore next to the Ag Building. We have use of this building too.The nearest access would be the FPB which is about a half mile north of the site. I am confident that we will get access because the work is on schedule and the forecast is favourable.
Dave...we are allowing participants onto the site after 9am. We are running a media event from 10 to 12 and then a competitive derby from 12:30 to 3;30 pm. We also are having a family/kids event in the tent from 12 to 3:30 as well. A few participants are going to set the kids up in the event tent with all the activities going on there and then go outside to fish the competitive. There will be an excellent silent auction in the event tent during the event. After everything winds down there will be a hog roast on the ice, a short memorial, followed by a firework display. Everything is on the site and other than the competitive event there really is no designated area. You may bring your shelter and set up or fish in the event tent. The site is pretty large and roomy. We will have a food vendor on the site until the hog roast dinner for munchies, lunch or hot beverages. The event tent will remain lit and heated all night until the pancake breakfast the following morning. The event concludes with the prize givaway. If a participant does not wish to stay out all night they can come and go as they please but please be at the prize givaway on sunday morning at the Ag building.

We will have an access to bring items onto the site and limited vehicle access for those that need to unload shacks or those who may have mobility issues. We will encourage parking in the parking area until later in the evening. Other than a 100 foot stretch of deeper snow that may stop a regular car the access from the FPB is good even for 2wd trucks. _________________ ...the thrill is in the catching not the keeping....
